Murphys Creek Theatre is a small, professionally oriented theatre company located in the charming and historic goldrush-era town of Murphys, in Calaveras County, California. Founded in 1994, the company produces the annual "Theatre Under the Stars" outdoor summer theatre festival at the Cornelia B. Stevenot Performing Arts Center at Stevenot Winery. Since its founding in 1994, MCT's productions at Stevenot have grown steadily in popularity and critical acclaim, and have become a favorite summer tradition for both residents and visitors alike. More recently, MCT has begun staging year round productions at the Murphys Black Bart Playhouse.
Stevenot Winery's intimate 250-seat outdoor amphitheatre provides the perfect setting to enjoy an evening of live theatre under the summer stars. Set on a tree-covered hillside in a natural "bowl," the theatre offers tiered seating with outstanding acoustics and site lines. You are welcome to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy before the show. Light snacks, desserts, Stevenot wine by the glass or bottle, and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase at each performance.
